Bill Nye Speaks at RIT
Bill Nye “The Science Guy” came to speak on Saturday at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center as Student Government’s Horton Distinguished Speaker.
The sold-out event brought fans from all over the RIT and Rochester community to see the guy that taught children, and even current students today, about science. After a few introductions from Student Government President, Ed Wolf, and others, Nye took the stage.
The audience immediately broke into applause and delayed Nye's ability to speak, as it also happened a few times in the course of his speech. The Cornell University alumnus talked about his sundial project on Mars and how his father’s love of sundials naturally came into play in the project to measure the time of day on Mars.
With jokes and audience participation incorporated into his speech, Nye then went on to talk about the climate change and how if we did our part conserving the energy and resources we overuse, we could change the world. He stated that eight percent of our electricity is wasted on unused things, such as cell phone chargers and stand by televisions.
After his lecture he allowed some of the audience members to ask him questions. Even though time was short, Nye still allowed his fans to ask away.
