Brick City Wraps Up With 5k Run & Walk

No one could have asked for a more beautiful morning Sunday. As the sun continued to rise, a large group of people was gathering at Grace Watson Hall to begin RIT’s 5th annual Brick City 5k Run and Walk.

Parents Randall Harris and Melissa Joslin were thrilled with this weekend’s perfect weather and were looking forward to running the 5k around RIT’s campus before heading back to their home outside of Albany. Harris and Joslin began their run at 10 am this morning along with the approximately 250 other registered parent, student and alumni runners.

The race took place on RIT’s USA Track and Field certified course, which begins south on Andrews Memorial Drive, turns north on Reynold’s Drive before rotating to make its way along the Quarter Mile Walkway. The course continued north along Lomb Drive then lead back to Andrews Memorial Drive where runners and walkers finished back in the front of Grace Watson Hall.

At a time of 16:50 Kevin Smith—a sixth year Mechanical Engineering student and assistant coach of the cross-country team—crossed the finish line first. Not far behind him was Ryan Pancost, 2005 Illustration alum, who came in second this morning. As more and more runners continued to finish, the weather only continued to get nicer. One parent commented about the event, “Excellent. Excellent weather, excellent course and it was a good chance to visit our son and run a race at the same time.”

As Brick City comes to a close, it is obvious what most alumni and families achieved this year; a great time at our campus events, and the ability to enjoy beautiful weather while visiting both old friends and students currently attending RIT. Harris and Joslin summed it up best, “The (weekend’s) weather was exquisite and it was a nice chance to see our daughter.”
