Hear 'em Sing
Music is no stranger to RIT. The campus is home to four acapella groups- Eight Beat Measure, Surround Sound, Brick City Singers; and one all female group, Encore. For members of each of the groups, music is more than just a performance- they use music as an emotional outlet, a way to get away from stress, and a counterweight to help them balance their academic lives.
The all-women, all-student run group Encore put on a fantastic performance today at ImagineRIT. The diverse group of singers is home to women from all majors and runs year round, consisting of dedicated individuals who simply love to sing.
Terra Towne, an RIT student in the audience stated that she loved hearing the girls sing. Towne had never heard them before, but was “very impressed with their performance”. Towne felt that the wide variety of voice styles within the group made the performance interesting. Chelsea Roberts, another RIT student, stated “their combination of popular music makes their performance better because I am familiar with the songs”.
The girls sang for about a half an hour and attracted a large, attentive audience. Everyone seemed to enjoy the entertainment, and many people stayed throughout all the acappella groups’ performances. The interpreters were very engaged in the performance as well, making it easy to include the deaf community.
The energy and enthusiasm of the girls made the performance incredibly entertaining. Music is a way for people of all ages to gather and spend time together. Each acapella group that performed today lived up to this premise, putting on a fantastic show.
