Learning How to Get “Self-Published”
Parents and students alike came to the basement of the College of Liberal Arts for an information session about how to publish their own material through Lulu.com. The website helps you store and publish your creative works, such as books and paintings. This little-known opportunity may be a shock at first but the presenters made the whole process easy with step-by-step instructions.
Marianne Buehler and Nick Paulus from the Publishing and Scholarship Support Services here at RIT guided the audience on how to get their very own books published, from creating a cover on PhotoShop to formatting the final project for printing on InDesign.
After the work is created, you are able to post your work for free. If you would like to publish your work, there are a number of ways to go about it using Lulu.com. You could get it published by Lulu for free and Lulu would hold the publishing rights, or you can publish it yourself using Lulu for $99.95. Afterwards you would be able to set the price, control how it’s viewed, and more. For more information you can check out http://www.lulu.com.
OpenBook@RIT is the Lulu Group where students, faulty, and alumni have posted their creations, making this the first academic library relationship with publishing POD. You can check this out at http://stores.lulu.com/openbookrit.
