Parents Learn How to Deal with "Terrible Twos"
The Academic Support Center (ACS) held an informational session on the second floor of the George Eastman Building to assist students transitioning from their first year to their second year. The program aimed toward a better understand and possibly help their student avoid the “sophomore slump,” or rescue them from it if need be.
A panel made up of representatives from the ASC, Co-op and Career Services, Institute Advising, and the Counseling Center answered questions to help parents better understand the “sophomore slump.” According the informational session, the reason why a student’s second year would be difficult is because the students aren’t new to RIT and RIT isn’t new to them anymore, and the pressure of raised expectation could be stressful. Also, a student’s second year is usually around the time they choose a minor or concentration, getting ready to apply for co-ops, and transition from the dorms to apartments.
ASC also offers an ongoing program for students to help them successfully conquer their second year and get the most out of their stay here at RIT.
