RIT's Baja SAE Race Team Holds Car Demonstration
A bright orange car, distinctly featuring a tiger face, came barreling through Simone Circle as onlookers watched in amazement. This afternoon, the RIT Baja SAE Race team held a demonstration of their award winning baja car outside of RIT Central on stage 3. The demonstration, which began at 3pm, showcased the club’s prizewinning car. The event began with a demonstration of the car's speed and suspension, concluding with a question and answer session where audience members interacted with the driver and other members of the team.
The baja car, which is leaving tonight for a competition in Oregon, has competed in multiple other national competitions. At the last race in Alabama, the car was ranked first in suspension, maneuverability, and design. The car was ranked 5th place overall out of 90 teams.
RIT’s Baja SAE team competes internationally in the SAE competition each year, an event sponsored and organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers or SAE. Competing cars are off-road vehicles that must be capable of surviving and excelling on a rough terrain course consisting of jumps and occasional bodies of water. This season's club had three scheduled races in the US, and one in Brazil. Upcoming races will be in Portland, Oregon on May 7 and in Burlington, Wisconsin on June 11.
