A Sneak Peak

Seniors in the Film and Animation program are required to complete a thesis project to embody all they have learned in their time at RIT. This project is representative of their education and experience at the school, along with long hours working on each film. Each of these projects will be shown at the end of May, in the Carlson Auditorium, but Imagine RIT participants were offered a sneak peek into each project through a trailer in the School of Film and Animation.

This year, students decided to use a wide variety of story lines. The projects ranged from period pieces to high-definition, experimental films all shot on Kodak film. Each student had the opportunity to write, direct, shoot, edit, act, and be part of the crew for each film. Many of the films feature collaboration between students to produce these excellent works of art.

The trailers gave a short glimpse of the storyline of each films. Most were live-action films, while a few were animations. Some of the films featured included were "The Weight of Words", "427 Suitcases", "Building Future", "Memory Collect", "Slow Down", and "2 Strangers Bonded". The trailers were featured on a large screen in the middle of the School of Film and Animation, and visitors could sit on comfy couches to watch the trailers.

This showcase of student talent impressed Julie Ducharme, a returning RIT student, “I wish that RIT students’ talents were displayed more often, especially to people outside of RIT. It’s nice for students to have their work viewed and critiqued by people outside of RIT. It offers a fresh view to the students.”

Each project has evolved throughout the four years each student has spent at RIT and will be showcased at RIT at the end of May. For more information about the School of Film and Animation and to view the senior theses visit www.rit.edu/~sofa/.
