Web-based Resource Tracking During a Disaster or Crisis Situation

Crises and disasters are times when information is critical, and time is of the essence. Students of the Golisano College of Computing have created a web-based resource tracking system which is being implemented on mobile devices.

The system they have developed coordinates emergency response teams and provides real-time information to better facilitate their efforts. When an emergency is reported, the system sends a call out to all nearby emergency response centers which then alerts their respective emergency response teams to the crisis or disaster. As the teams arrive at the emergency site, their arrival report is automatically completed — a small but critical step which saves precious time and can help diffuse a situation quickly and safely.

The student-developed system also provides real-time vital updates to the response time as the situation continues. This information includes where different resources are needed as well as a recommended course of action. The resource tracking system will provide a new level of instant coordination between emergency response teams at disaster locations. A system such as this will simplify and accelerate the communication between disaster teams, which will undoubtedly save many lives. This exhibit will be running in B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, room 2620, throughout the entire day.
