Innovation News Released
The Open Publishing Lab is proud to announce that Innovation News has been released as a Drupal installation profile. In addition to being one of the first major releases by the Open Publishing Lab, it is the first Drupal installation profile to reach a 1.0 release. The installation profile is licensed under the terms of the GPL, making it truly Free and Open Source software.
Innovation News is a cross-media newspaper which has been developed by the Open Publishing Lab over the past six months. Innovation News was first highlighted at RIT's Imagine RIT innovation festival in May of 2008. During the festival, it was used to provide a nearly instantaneous print newspaper which covered the events of the day.
By following this guide you can install your very own Innovation News website. You will be able to use all of the tools which we used on our own Innovation News website on the day of the Imagine RIT festival. Specifically, you will be able to easily build a team of writers and editors, build editions of your newspaper, generate XML data from your editions, and display your stories in Google Earthâ„¢ according to location.
Innovation News has already generated some interest in the Drupal community. Many users have been involved in testing the software, and one user has made the Open Publishing Lab aware of his plans to use Innovation News to run a magazine.
