Using Page2Pub
Gathering and creating an EPUB
-
Open Firefox and click on the Page2Pub icon in the lower right corner of the browser window.
-
Inside the Click New to create a new Page2Pub EPUB or Open to open an existing EPUB.
-
Tip: If you’re starting a new EPUB you can choose to skip this step. The first time you gather a page or a section, you’ll be automatically be prompted to create a new EPUB if one isn’t already started.
-
-
Navigate to a page that contains information that you’d like to capture.
-
Note: The current version of Page2Pub is optimized for gathering content from Wikis. Content gathered from other sites may not render well as an ePub or PDF.
-
-
Either gather the entire page using Gather Page from the Gather menu or select the content you’d like to gather and choose Gather Selection from the same menu. The name of the content you gathered will appear in the Table of Contents pane and the content’s related Properties, Metadata, and Footnotes will appear to the right.
-
Tip: You can speed up gathering by using the Page2Pub context menu that’s accessible when you “right-click” with your mouse inside the Firefox content window.
-
That’s it! To keep building your EPUB, just keep browsing and gathering.
Editing your EPUB
-
Reordering the contents
In the Table of Contents pane, click to select the content that you’d like to move and then click the Up and Down Arrows located to the right of the pane.-
Note: You can only move one piece of content at a time. And you must deselect content before selecting another piece of content to move.
-
-
Delete content
In the Table of Contents pane, click to select the content that you’d like to delete and then click the Delete tab above the pane. -
Edit Metadata
In the Table of Contents pane, click to select the content whose metadata you’d like to edit and click on the Metadata tab to the right. Use the pulldown to select the tag that you’d like to edit. All Metadata changes are automatically saved.
Creating a Print-Ready PDF Book from your EPUB
-
Open your file in the Page2Pub Render System
-
Option 1: With your EPUB open in the Page2Pub Firefox Add-On, select Prepare EPUB for Print from the Tools pull down. Provided that it’s installed, the Add-On will automatically launch the Page2Pub Render System and load your current EPUB in it.
-
Option 2: Launch the Page2Pub Render System application and Open your file from the File menu.
-
-
When the EPUB loads you’ll see an html based approximation of what the final, print ready PDF will look like. You can experiment with different designs and form factors, by selecting different Templates from the Display menu.
-
Note: The current version of the Render System does not simulate page breaks.
-
-
After you’ve selected a template that you like, select Output to PDF from the Output menu. You will then be prompted to name the file and specify a location to save it. Once you hit Save the Render System will create the PDF and then automatically launch it in Acrobat once it is finished.
