Open Publishing Inspiration

There are numerous project and writings that have inspired the work of the OPL, including:

  • Cory Doctorow's Printcrime
Cory is a pioneer in the field of Open Publishing. Every one of his novels has been freely released on the internet, under a creative commons license, in conjunction with its publication through normal channels. He's also written and spoken extensively on the subject of Open Publishing and the problems with Digital Rights Management Software. Printcrime is a wonderful short story that illustrates both the power of "open" and the ultimate futility of closed systems. We thank Cory for allowing us to reproduce it here.
  • Eric S. Raymond's The Cathedral and the Bazaar
One of the seminal works on open-source software development
  • Lawrence Lessig's Free Culture and the Creative Commons Project
  • The Internet Archive Project
